Somnathpur temple - A Hoysala fashion statement

December 9th, 2007 · 11 Comments

Like the age-defying stone carvings in the temples at Belur and Halebid, the Keshava temple at Somnathpur too stands testimony  to the exquisite stone work that flourished during the Hoysala times.

    The first picture has some special effect. What’s it? Looks brilliant. So do others.

    Vatsap: Hmm, tell me what you see & I’ll try to tell you why. I’ve corrected the wb/tones a bit. Otherwise, as was shot.

    Yes… I really like the first shot too… The shadows almost frame the picture.

    Typical intricacies of Hoysala architecture.
    I hear the temple at Somanathapur goes an extra mile than Belur/Halebeedu in perfection; need to get there some day.

    First picture, I guess it is the clouds that make the image. They are there as if posing for the pic. Slightly burnt, but a nice picture.

    @TWH & Christina: Thanks :)
    @Anush: We need to talk, sire.. *I* have got to take *you* there now ? :-p
    @Arun: I’ve always thought better of Halebid carvings than Belur’s. But if one must rank them, Somnathpur will win hands down just because it is not infested with so many tourists. Yet ;)

    “if one must rank them..”

    @Arun: :) nothing wrong..
    When one knows one can’t make these hard choices, one resorts to philosophical intimidation ;) Btw, one also refers to self as one.. Oh, one’s head is reeling now with all this strange english.. [*Actually* laughing out loud]
